Cleaning Your Emotional House

“Spring Cleaning for Your Emotional House”

Its nearing the end of spring in Northern Hemisphere… For many, it is time to do some spring cleaning around the house, after a winter of being cooped up.

Recently I was catching up with a dear friend and the conversation turned to a recent realization about a dream of mine.   The dream itself is quite worthy, however, I had become so attached to how I thought that dream was supposed to happen, that I was regularly putting myself in front of people who “I” thought were supposed to be involved and then finding myself feeling disappointed when it did not come true.

Fortunately, the right people showed up with some incredible insight and perspective. Suddenly, it all made sense….

How could my dream come true when I kept holding on to all the disappointments?  Duh.  I needed to clean out my emotional house!

Sometimes, you have to let go of the very thing you are clinging to.  Then, and only then, can you clear the clutter in your emotional house and make room for what you truly desire to arrive.

How many people have you met that are still clinging on to the same story, the same disappointment, the same misery?   Its like gathering clutter and dust in your real house.  This emotional clutter causes stress to build up in our system and then when we least expect it…..BAM!, it shows up and ruins our day with symptoms like:

  • depression issues,
  • digestive issues,
  • sleep issues and
  • brain activity issues

What can you do to clean your “emotional” house?

The Circle of Balance model introduced in Dancing Away Stress, supports the concept that when you are engaged in purposeful, life-balancing activities aligned with your goals, values and passions, you are reducing stress.  So stress is increased when we hang on to unresolved emotions, which impairs our pursuit of activities that supporting your goals, passions and purpose in life.

The Circle of Balance – when you are involved in these activities you are reducing stress….what happens when you are not involved in these activities? You are inducing stress.

Now when you are faced with emotional stress….choose activities that will give your life meaning, joy and purpose and most critically, help you manage the stress that pulls life out of balance.  One of the best activities is writing…its really therapeutic.  And it can even bring you some major financial benefits….

leave your legacy of emotional and financial freedom.

And as always….dance with your soul!  Dance is the hidden language of the soul….Martha Graham.
