Walking in Harmony with Wisdom

Finding Wisdom Through Reflection

Is your body a vessel for health and healing?  We live in this beautiful world that is full of constant activity and sometimes confusion.  This can affect our emotions, decision-making process, and physical wellbeing.  Do you need more than downtime to fill your cup of joy?  We don’t have all the answers, but we do have some thoughts to share with you about wisdom.

Welcome to episode number one of the Indigo Tent, a podcast where we invite creativity and look for balance in this complicated and yet oh so wonderful world.  Join us for a conversation in the tent about self-reflection and insights from our ancestors.  This episode is about Wisdom and how we can gain knowledge to be more effective in our inter and inner actions.  If the body, the vessel is healthy, the mind will make better decisions.  Wisdom in action.

Show Notes

Wisdom is taking time to reflect and ponder the different life experiences and interactions that we have. When we take that time to ponder insights and messages from past events, we have more resources to respond to other situations in the future.

Reflection Questions:
  • How do you get wisdom?
  • What is the difference between knowledge and wisdom?
  • Does a college degree give you wisdom?

Drawing Connections From the Past

Often times, we hear stories passed down from our ancestors. There can be a lot of wisdom that we can learn by pondering our heritage because it can help us discover what brought us to our current situation.

Take time to look at your situation and evaluate it. The factors that have put us in the position that we are in are there to help us learn the lessons we need to learn. If our ancestors or other past relationships hadn’t made the choices that they made, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Reflection Questions:
  • What happened to them that created that behavior in their life?
  • What impact did their upbringing have on them?
  • What things were they dealing with that ultimately led to their decisions?

We don’t often get to see beyond our own perspective, so take this opportunity to reflect on what pressures and things went into their decisions. This will help us gain wisdom from their previous choices to inform our decision-making process in the future. Only the truly wise can learn from the choices of others.

Exercise In Polarity

Imagine a relationship that you may have struggled with. This exercise is going to explore that relationship and can be done in your own mind or in real life.

Get one object that represents positive energy and one that represents negative energy. In the example, we use an elephant decoration and a knife. Place them on opposite ends of the room.

Then walk to the object that represents negative energy and think of all of struggles you have had with this relationship. Remember all of the different grievances and just open your mind to the messages you feel.

Then walk to the object that represents positive energy and repeat this process. Make sure your mind is open to the different messages and feelings you have.

Finally, walk to the middle of the room and and listen to the messages of both sides. You can give weight to any thoughts that come to you as you find a place for both sides to coexist.

Tools for Reflection

One of the things that is really going to help you find wisdom is by journaling. Use the reflection questions and the exercises as a starting point to document your thought process. Having your thoughts documented so that you can refer back to them is an important part of wisdom.

Journaling is a crucial part of the journey to connect with your higher self. If you haven’t already, I recommend investing in a nice, high-quality journal. This will help place the proper importance on the gems of wisdom that come to you as you reflect. Here are some examples of good journals to use on Amazon:
