Mental-Pause: Taking a Break to Find the Wisdom in Life

It’s summertime here in the Indigo Tent and we think it’s time to take a “mental pause” from the heavy events that surround us or the internal emotions that suppress us.  Join us as we talk about movies and books.  Kind of a book club and sort of a mental escape.  We have covered some deep topics lately, now it’s time to change it up and explore the fictional world of novels and Netflix!  Come on into the tent where it is nice and cool.  Bring a beverage and popcorn and let’s settle in for a fun conversation.

Read on or listen if you prefer to keep on doing what you’re doing….

Movies and Books we’re reflecting on today with our discussion in the tent!

The Troop Zero movie – Amazon Prime Movie

The Red Tent, by Anita Diamant

Overview

In this podcast, we explore a movie and a novel. In the movie, Troop Zero, the main character struggles with the loss of her mom and the lack of attention from her scattered father. This delightful and oh so quirky little girl is obsessed with the outer reaches of the universe and has a curious mind that just won’t stop. She wants desperately to communicate with her deceased mother. NASA comes to her little backwater, Southern town, and offers a chance to send a message to the aliens via a satellite transmission. Our young heroine creates a troop of misfits who, along with the adults, all endure the “mean girl” scenario from a rival girl scout troop. We really liked this movie because it explored the theme of being an unusual member of society and yet finding ways to flourish despite a multitude of difficulties.

In the book, The Red Tent, set in the Holy Land of the Old Testament, we compare one of the female characters, who is very weak and beaten down, with the strong women in the story who have overcome adversity because they have self-respect. We love this book and it inspired the name of our podcast. We’re revisiting it after 20 years and have a different take on it the second time around. For Wendy, the book evoked an awareness that she is now the matriarch of her family. Zella Marie looked at the power of the women characters and their ability to express themselves, or not!!!!

Life’s lessons are not easy but they help us to achieve, thrive, overcome, and find a path to our higher self. In both the book and the movie, the setting, the circumstances, and the choices made…. all setup ways for the characters to reach goals and thrive no matter what!! Our fictional friends in the novel and the movie have to face bullies. They demonstrate for us how to overcome behavior that is meant to tear us down. It’s fun to use entertainment to analyze and compare what the characters go through as we examine our own path to our higher selves.
