Why do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

Why do bad things happen, to anyone? Wendy and I pondered this question in our latest discussion. Do you find the narrative of the heroine’s journey intriguing? We all face difficult times or circumstances. Why? What is the purpose? The journey toward our higher selves continues with conversations in the Indigo Tent.  Join us on the adventure.

The mountain top experience is exhilarating but we can’t live at that emotional altitude all the time. The day in, day out experience of life has valleys, plateaus, and mountain peak adventures. What can we take away from literature, from the classics such as the Bible or time-honored Greek tragedies? In this episode of the Indigo Tent Wendy and I discuss the heartbreaking tale of Job, a very good man with an unbelievable streak of bad luck. In the face of adversity, even his wife of many years suggests that Job should just end his life. But he preserves, ponders the circumstances, and finds that his faith can and will sustain him! In this discussion, we ponder the hero’s journey and come up with some ideas that just might help you to tune into your higher self, even when the journey is difficult.

“Sometimes the same experience or lesson keeps popping up. Is it to take the message to a deeper level or is it to show us how far we have come?” Dr. Wendy Guess

Moments with Your Higher Self

Carefully curated activities – we’re educators, we know that reflection on a topic (homework) works and these activities can help us share even more moments with our higher self.

  • Read the book of Job in the Old Testament
  • Start a book study with fellow sojourners.
  • Read about the process of the refiner’s fire, the external and internal process of changing:
  • Read the Odyssey, or check out this summary and discussion:
  • Read a new novel or reread an old favorite. I recommend anything by Isabell Allende. Her main characters are always women and go thru various stages of the hero’s journey.

Thanks for listening and we’ll see you next time in the tent.
